CIT Program
(Counselor-In-Training)
The CIT program is offered to select applicants who desire to focus on leadership development and skill building and who have the a potential for a future role as a counselor at Netop. CITs will have an opportunity to develop a range of important life skills, including communication, activity organization, coaching, team building, teaching and program skills in areas such as waterfront, sports, arts and wilderness trips.
The program is designed to give participants a hands experiential learning opportuniy, while enjoying the community and program at Netop. CITs are treated as a member of the staff and will typically be assigned to live and work directly in a camper tent assisting counselors. They work and learn under the leadership and supervision of an experienced CIT Group Leader. There is a fee associate with this program.
The CIT program has three primary objectives:
- To develop and enhance a range of core leadership skills, including planning, organizing, communication, team building, teaching, coaching and more.
- To enable participants to make a positive contribution to the camper experience while participating as a staff member and essential part of the Netop community.
- To grow personally, develop a better sense of self and become prepared for a future role as a Netop Counselor.

Typical Activities
Participants will be involved in a wide range of activities, including:
- Working toward certification or high level of expertise in selected program areas
- Assisting counselors with instructional activity periods
- Working as a group to plan, organize and lead certain program events
- Helping to develop and implement special days and events at camp
- Assisting coaches with team practices and inter-camp athletic events
- Developing camping trip skills through selected wilderness trips
- Participating in staff meetings and training events

CITs are expected to:
- Develop strong skills in selected activities
- Learn about camp policies and procedures
- Gain experience in leadership situations at camp
- Demonstrate responsibility and serve as a role model to campers
- Assist Counselors and Work Staff in a wide variety of ways
- Work together effectively as a CIT team
- Demonstrate enthusiasm and make a positive contribution to the Netop community
