Boulders from the ice age

October 26th, 2016

3-rocksNetop’s landmark “Three Rocks” on the far side of Birch Pond are evidence from the last Great Ice Age that ended over 10,000 years ago! Typically viewed from the beach, this recent photo taken by alum Matt Caras reveals a closer look at these spectacular glacial remains. The largest of the “three rocks” has been calculated to contain about 32 cubic yards of grey granite with a weight of over 73 tons. Campers in our snorkeling class can examine the underwater magnificence of these massive boulders. Many other granite boulders formed during the Ice Age can be found all over Netop!
